This exhibition was held in the place where Schindler's factory stands, and tells of the amazing courage and ingenuity that Schindler displayed in saving thousands of people by hiring them to work in his factory throughout World War II. The documents and artefacts on display were amazing to see, although very sad, and we once again found ourselves struggling to keep up with how much information there was to take in.
After this visit, we caught a taxi back to the Main Street, had some lunch, and then went to visit Wawel Castle. Whilst we didn't actually go inside (as we ran out of time) we spent some time walking around the courtyard and gardens - it was very beautiful!
At 3pm we met up with some of the other tour group and Joe drove us all out to the Wieliczka Salt Mines: just outside of Kraków and well worth a visit! This is one of UNESCO's world heritage listed sights! Salt rock sculptures, chapels, great halls filled with chandeliers, lakes... and all of it more than 130 metres underground!!!! I have to say, I was getting quite claustrophobic on my way walking down the hundreds of stairs, and almost had a bit of a panic attack, but I pushed through and I was very glad that I did. Such amazing sights!
After this, we went back into town and Michael and I split off from the group to find somewhere nice in the market square to have a romantic dinner for two: this was our one month marriage anniversary!!!! Michael surprised me with a pair of earrings he sneakily bought in Bratislava, and we had an amazing dinner before making our way back to the hotel to meet up with some of our broccolo buddies (tour members).
Awesome place, lovely people, beautiful buildings, and a fantastic time. Dziekuje, Poland! ^.^
