Amsterdam

Okay, I was fairly unsure of what to expect from Amsterdam. I've heard a few bits and pieces, either from history or from friends and family, but I can say it definitely exceeded my expectations.

(5/7/15) We began our time in Holland by visiting a very cute little cheese and wooden clog factory. We were shown how the tradition Dutch Gouda is made, and even tried a couple of samples, and then had a short demonstration on how wooden clogs are made, and what all the different designs mean. It was a short stop, but a beautiful little place surrounded by lovely windmills - exactly how I pictured Holland to look!

After that stop, we made our way into the main heart of Amsterdam and checked in at our hotel. I use the term hotel very loosely, as it was worse than any HOSTEL I've ever stayed in, but it prides itself on being the worst hotel in Europe. Trust me, it lives up to this title, but it really didn't take away from the awesomeness of Amsterdam.

After a quick walking tour with the most awesome tour guide (Felix) we had a reasonably quiet night (dinner at an awesome little Vietnamese place for some fresh bun bowls and pho) before our next big day. (6/7/15) we started the next morning with a bike tour of Amsterdam. This was super sensational - we rode in a small group around the streets and over bridges, into beautiful parks, and past historical sights. One of high regard for me was going past the "Anne Frank House" which of course is not her actual house, but instead the house in which her family hid, in the attic, during World War II. The line was over three hours long, and apparently they don't let you into the actual rooms, so we were happy enough just to look from afar, but I'm glad I was there.

After the bike tour we walked into the markets - it was one long street with clothes, food, trinkets, and souvenirs. We tried some little baby pancake/pikelet things called Poffertjes. They are like little drops of heaven!!!! Crispy on the outside and gooey in the middle and then covered in Nutella eeeeeeeeeeehhh!!!! So delicious.

Some more wandering around Amsterdam and looking in shops, and then we went back to our hotel to get ready for a special dinner; a canal cruise dinner!!!! A fantastic way to finish our tour with all the awesome people we have met.

Is like to take this time to say a huge thank you to all the amazing souls we met on our European tour. We've met some really sensational people, we've had many many laughs, and we've left with some truly awesome friends. Thank you for the bottom of our hearts for being so lovely and making our honeymoon trip so special and memorable. We will never forget you.

The Indonesian inspired dinner on the cruise was awesome, and the free drinks went down well too (possibly a little too well, as the rest of the night was a bit of a blur). We went to some bars to party hard for our last night on tour, and then we walked back along the canals to say our official farewells to Amsterdam. It is such a beautiful place!!! It has a rep, I know, but honestly it seems like the locals are all just awesome human beings who work hard and don't get caught up in the stuff that most tourists go there to do. Thanks, Amsterdam. Well played.
